Sourcing a flue exhaust tankless instant gas water heater is not the same as ordering a fridge or a fan. The wrong choice does not just disappoint the end user — it triggers warranty claims, installation callbacks, and in the worst case, a safety incident that can shut down a distribution channel overnight.
The good news: the selection logic is not complicated once you understand what the flue system is actually doing, and how it interacts with the building, the gas supply, and the local climate.
This guide walks importers, wholesalers, and installation contractors through every practical decision — from flue architecture to gas type, capacity, control style, certifications, and a sourcing checklist you can hand directly to a factory.
Every gas tankless water heater falls into one of three venting categories. Getting this right is the single highest-leverage decision in the entire buying process.
- How it works: Combustion gases rise on their own buoyancy through a vertical chimney. Combustion air is drawn from the room.
- Where it fits: Well-ventilated utility rooms with a straight vertical chimney to the roof — a pattern still common in some rural Latin American, African, and Central Asian markets.
- Where it fails: Sealed modern apartments, bathrooms with extractor fans, high-rise buildings with shared shafts, and any location with strong seasonal downdrafts.
- Buying signal: Cheapest of the three, but rapidly being phased out of urban regulations.
- How it works: An internal fan actively pushes combustion products out through a single-wall flue pipe, typically terminating through a side wall or a short vertical run to the roof. Combustion air is still drawn from the room.
- Where it fits: Kitchens, ventilated bathrooms, service balconies, tight utility rooms, buildings with restricted vertical chimney access. Very popular across Russia, the Gulf, and Latin American urban housing.
- Where it fails: Fully sealed rooms with no combustion-air inlet, and any location where local code requires a room-sealed (Type C) unit.
- Buying signal: The sweet spot of price, safety, and installation flexibility for most export markets. This is the largest single category we ship.
- How it works: A concentric or twin-pipe assembly draws outside air in and pushes exhaust out simultaneously. The combustion chamber never exchanges air with the room.
- Where it fits: Bathrooms, bedrooms, closets, apartment blocks with strict indoor air quality codes. Standard specification in most of Western Europe and mandated in an increasing number of Gulf and Eastern European markets.
- Where it fails: Nothing, functionally — but the flue kit cost is higher, and rigid pipe routing needs planning during the building phase.
- Buying signal: Premium tier, essential for EU markets, and increasingly demanded in premium residential projects across the Middle East.

A common mistake in export purchasing is asking for "the biggest one" as if capacity were free. Oversizing an instant gas water heater increases upfront cost, gas consumption, and the risk of short-cycling that damages the burner over time.
Use this practical mapping:
- 6–8 L/min: A single kitchen sink, or a single small bathroom in a warm climate where inlet water is already 20 °C+. Common request from Egypt, Algeria, and coastal Latin America for small apartments and staff quarters.
- 10 L/min: The workhorse. Serves one bathroom with a comfortable shower flow even when inlet water drops to 10–15 °C. This is the volume behind most of our Middle East and CIS shipments. Our 10 L instant thermostatic models were engineered specifically for this segment.
- 12–14 L/min: Two-fixture use — a shower and a kitchen tap running simultaneously — or a single powerful rain shower. Popular in Mexican and Chilean middle-class housing.
- 16 L/min: Two full bathrooms in parallel use, or one bathroom in a cold climate (Russia, Kazakhstan, mountainous Andes) where the temperature rise required is 40 °C or more.
- 20 L/min and above: Small commercial (salons, small hotels), or villas in cold climates with three or more simultaneous draws.
A quick rule of thumb: multiply the required temperature rise (in °C) by the required flow (in L/min) and divide by 14.3 to estimate the kW input needed. If the resulting number exceeds the unit's rated input, the shower will run cool — no fan on the flue can fix a burner that is undersized for the job.
This is where a lot of imported product silently underperforms. Gas type, pressure, and stability all shape the correct SKU.
- Natural gas (G20, G25): Urban infrastructure across Europe, the Gulf, most of Russia, and the larger cities of Latin America. Lower calorific value per m³ — the burner runs longer at full input to deliver the same heat.
- LPG — butane (G30) and propane (G31): Bottled or bulk supply across rural Latin America, Africa, remote CIS regions, and off-grid Middle East installations. Higher calorific value, shorter hotter flame, needs smaller injectors and higher inlet pressure.
Never accept a "universal" tankless heater as a substitute for a gas-family-specific unit. Every heater we ship is factory-set for its destination gas family, with the correct injectors installed and the modulation curve calibrated.
If your market is fed by bottled LPG, expect real inlet pressure to swing from 25 mbar (near-empty bottle in cold weather) to 40 mbar (fresh bottle in summer). A serious flue exhaust tankless unit tolerates that range without flame lift or nuisance shutdown, because its gas valve modulates in response to burner load rather than assuming a fixed inlet.
Ask the manufacturer specifically what the minimum sustained inlet pressure for stable ignition is on their SKU. If the answer is a single number rather than a range, dig deeper.
Above 1,500 m — think Bogotá, La Paz, Quito, Sana'a, Almaty's mountain suburbs — air density falls enough to disturb combustion. Correct product requires a modified injector, adjusted fan curve, and revised safety limits. - Best fit for entry-level and mid-tier retail SKUs.
- The user sets a target outlet temperature (e.g., 42 °C).
- The PCB modulates gas valve, fan speed, and cold-water bypass to hold that temperature within ±1 °C regardless of inlet conditions.
- Feature-rich: memory, child lock, error self-diagnosis, remote control.
- Best fit for the Gulf, Russia, Eastern Europe, and urban Latin American premium tiers, where the end user expects the same experience as a Western brand at a competitive price.

Regulatory documentation is often the difference between a shipment that clears customs and one that sits in a bonded warehouse. Common asks by region:
- European Union and CE-recognizing markets: CE marking against EN 26, EN 60335-1, and the Gas Appliances Regulation (EU) 2016/426. Non-negotiable.
- Russia and Eurasian Customs Union: EAC certification. Some categories additionally require GOST-R.
- Gulf Cooperation Council: SASO for Saudi Arabia, ESMA for the UAE, plus G-Mark labelling. Certain municipalities add local gas authority approvals.
- North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa: SONCAP for Nigeria, COC for Egypt, and destination-country pre-shipment inspection where applicable.

- Fan brand and modulation. DC-brushless with Hall-effect feedback costs more than a fixed-speed AC fan, but delivers quieter operation and enables full modulation. In premium tiers, insist on DC.

- Packaging. Export-grade 5-ply corrugated cartons with EPS corners survive a 40-day sea journey; retail cartons do not. Cheap packaging is expensive when 5 % of a container arrives dented.
For a distributor testing a new supplier, a structured first order de-risks the entire relationship:
- Mix, don't concentrate. A 20-foot container is enough to run three SKUs (for example, 10 L mechanical, 10 L thermostatic, 16 L thermostatic) in modest quantities. Real customer demand will tell you which one to double down on for order two.
- Sample the flue kits. Order 5 % of the container as flue kits — even if you plan to source locally later. It tells you whether the factory's kit fits its own cabinet and lets you photograph a complete install for marketing.
- Include spare parts. A basic aftersales kit — igniter electrodes, flame sensors, gas valves, PCBs — for 2 % of the unit count keeps your service team from being embarrassed in month three.
- Insist on QC photos before dispatch. Any serious manufacturer is happy to send in-line photos of the packed pallets and the sealed container. If the request feels awkward to the supplier, that is information.
